If you're meeting it for the first time, “the Akashic Records” may sound very unfamiliar. In the spiritual traditions it comes from, it's understood as a record that holds the soul's experiences; it is a spiritual belief and a way of exploring.
Where the word “Akasha” comes from
“Akasha” is a Sanskrit word meaning sky, space and ether. In these spiritual traditions, the soul's experiences are understood to be recorded there: thoughts, actions, feelings, decisions, intentions, the events lived through, lessons and challenges.
How an Akashic reading differs from fortune-telling
An Akashic reading is not fortune-telling, and it is less suited to yes-or-no questions (“is it…”, “will it…”, “can I…”); beyond that, you can ask almost anything. Readings here are about understanding yourself and exploring within: they offer no fixed predictions and make no decisions for you.
Start with your everyday life
You don't need a grand question. A recent hesitation, a relationship that keeps pulling you back and forth, or a tiredness you can't explain can all be a starting point.
Keep the answers in your own hands
You can reflect on the perspectives from a reading, or keep your doubts. You never have to accept any view wholesale, much less hand your life decisions to someone else. Take what you understand back into real life and see what helps.
Try writing one sentence
“If I could understand myself a little better, what I'd most like to see first is…” Stop there, and give yourself some time.
